Lady Saints defeat Copiah

BROOKHAVEN — The Trinity Episcopal Lady Saints have navigated through a tough schedule with success, and they continued that on Tuesday the final day of the Brookhaven Academy Holiday Classic.

The MAIS Class A Lady Saints defeated their fourth Class AAA team of the season in handing Copiah a 42-31 loss.

The Lady Saints dominated Copiah defensively, never allowing them to score double digits in any quarter.

Trinity had a 13-5 lead after the first quarter and basically maintained that lead through the rest of the game until the fourth, when they outscored Copiah 14-8 to put the game out of reach.

Bethany Ogden led Trinity with 18 points while Madelyn Cross added 12 for the Lady Saints, who improved to 12-4 on the season.

No Copiah player scored in double figures, with Rachel Strait leading the way with nine points.

Parklane boys 60,

Trinity Episcopal 46

BROOKHAVEN — The Trinity boys didn’t have the same success the Lady Saints had, as they fell by 14 points to Parklane in the Brookhaven Academy Holiday Classic.

Trinity hung close in the first quarter, and trailed only 17-12 after the first eight minutes.

But Parklane outscored the Saints 18-8 in the second quarter to basically put the game out of reach.

R.J. Fleming and L.J. Trimble led Trinity with 11 points each while Brandon Daggs added nine and Jordan Dossett tallied eight.

Parklane was led by Parker Moore with 21 points and Nick Penn with 12.

Trinity fell to 7-5 on the season with the loss.

Starkville girls 67, Natchez High 58

HATTIESBURG — The rough start to the Natchez High Lady Bulldogs season continued Tuesday as they fell to Starkville in the Hattiesburg Holiday Classic.

Starkville jumped out to a 16-9 lead after the first quarter and never looked back from there.

Starkville led 30-19 at halftime and expanded its lead to 48-32 at the end of the third quarter before Natchez made the score slightly more respectable with a strong fourth quarter effort.

The loss was Natchez’s third straight in the tournament and drops the Lady Bulldogs’ record to 7-8.

Keosha Bradley and Ashley Minor led Natchez with 15 points apiece.

Ferriday girls 52, Tensas High 40

SICILY ISLAND — The Ferriday Lady Trojans captured the championship of the Sicily Island Tournament with a strong defensive performance against Tensas High Tuesday night.

The Lady Trojans didn’t light up the scoreboard themselves, but they didn’t have to thanks to an outstanding defensive effort.

Ferriday led just 7-6 after one quarter, but expanded that lead to 21-16 at halftime.

They then outscored Tensas 16-11 in the third quarter to pull away for the victory.

Jasmine Butler was the major difference offensively for Ferriday, as she scored 23 points to lead all scorers.

Chante Poole added eight points for the Lady Trojans while T’Keyah Fletcher chipped in with seven.

Tensas was led by Morgan Robinson with nine points and Brittany Davis with eight.

Ferriday improved its record to 11-6 with the victory.
