DODSON, La. — Services for Herman H. Green, 85, of Vidalia, who died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at the Veterans Administration Nursing Home in Alexandria, La., will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Cypress Creek Baptist Church in Dodson with the Rev. Nick Barrett officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Magnolia Funeral Home in Alexandria.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the church.
Mr. Green was born Nov. 6, 1924, in the Winn Parish community, the son of James Monroe Green and Minni Barnes Green. He was employed by the City of Vidalia as a police officer for two years and later became a game warden for the state of Louisiana. Mr. Green was shot in the line of duty in 1969 and retired in 1982.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Edna Green Calhoun of Monterey and Linnie Green Bullock of Bienville, La.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Myers Green; five children, Virginia Gayle Cuddy and husband, William R. Bishop Sr., of Centre, Ala., John Harrison Green and wife, Phyllis Ashley, of Marshal, Ark., Debra N. French of Humble, Texas, Darryll Eugene “Buddy” Green and wife, Patty McCarthy, of Jonesville and Robert Marion Green and wife, Julianna Moore, of Galveston, Texas; nine grandchildren, Jamie E. Walters, Scott D. Green, Christopher R. Counts, Rebecca A. Cuddy Reed, Clay Green, Eric French, Sorena L. Green, Robert M. Green and Nicky Green; 10 great-grandchildren, Cameron J. Johnson, Jessica L. Green, Colby Johnson, Kari E. Green, Tristan R. Johnson, Rachael A. Green, Sidney N. Cuddy, Haley N. Green, Clay J. Wagers and Lance Wagers; two brothers, J.M. Green Jr. and wife, Marylou, and Paul Green and wife, Betty; and two sisters, Louisa Green Anderson and Pauline Green Durbin.
Pallbearers will be John H. Green, Darryll E. Green, Robert M. Green, Scott D. Green, Cameron Johnson and David Bullock.
Honorary pallbearers will be Milton Green, Christopher R. Counts and Eric French.
The family extends thanks to special friends and relatives, the James Chandler family, the Ray Curlee family, Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Green and Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
