MLK Day began week of good news

Last week started with fitting tributes to the late Martin Luther King Jr. and ended in full glamour as locals celebrated Mardi Gras in style.

In between, the news was just as good. Let’s review some of the good news last week brought us.

Children were the stars of the annual Natchez Association for the Preservation of Afro-American Culture’s “I Have A Dream” youth luncheon, and they gave us all plenty of hope for the future. Our community is full of talented, bright young folks with a passion for what they love.

The Vidalia Chamber of Commerce had its annual dinner Tuesday night, honoring some worthy locals for their community commitment. Vidalian of the Year Dee Faircloth has been an important part of so many young lives over the years; his contributions likely can’t be calculated.

A group of local churches and teens aiming to bring a morally based non-denominational movie to town have succeeded. “To Save a Life” started airing at the Natchez Mall Cinema Friday. The film focuses on real issues teen face; we hope its impact will be a positive one here.

Cathedral High scientists-to-be had a visit from a Cornell University professor Friday. The students had the opportunity to learn from an expert, but also to practice with top-notch equipment. We hope their lab inspired a few great minds that may later change life for all of us with a few discoveries.

As another week begins, we stop to realize just how great life in the Miss-Lou can be.
