Pass the kibble, we are almost there

The little ones — and big ones too — at the Natchez-Adams County Humane Society may only have to wait a bit longer.

Fundraising efforts, ongoing for more than a year, are nearing their end, as much of the money to build a new shelter is on hand.

With $500,000 accounted for and a $750,000 goal, there’s still some work to be done, though.

Organizers of the drive are seeking several large donations to help finish the job, but they acknowledge that every $5 helps as well.

Those working to make the new shelter a reality and all those who have donated so far deserve a big thank you, or at least a kitty leg rub.

Those who haven’t made a donation are encouraged to visit the existing shelter any afternoon. Seeing the conditions should be reason enough to at least empty the change out of your pockets.

Animals in Natchez have long deserved better conditions. The plans are drawn and most of the money is collected, we just need to finish the job.

Hopefully the next news about the humane society will be that of a shelter groundbreaking.

We know where they can find some good diggers, that is for sure.
