It’s really a great thing to hear about country music finally getting re-popularized in Natchez.

I want to remind people of one of the best country music shows in this area and one for the family.

This Jan. 9 marked the 12th anniversary of the Big River Jamboree that is performed the second Saturday night of every month at the Shriner’s Hall on Morgantown Road in Natchez.

There is a short gospel hour at 6 p.m., then the lights are turned low and beginning at 7 p.m. some of the best country music ever heard begins.

There is no alcohol but just some good ole dancing while the Shriners man the kitchen and concessions.

They are wonderful people and benefit from the show.

There is no one that stars in Nashville, but I’ll guarantee some of them really should be because they do mostly classic country, a little blues and a little waltz.

If you loved Haggard, Strait, Jones, Smith, Earl Conley and all the older ones, this is the place to be Feb. 13.

The cost is $6 per couple donation or $4 single. There are raffles and prizes and a whole lot of good fun.

There is plenty of parking for all. You’ll be helping the “Surefire” band kick off its 13th year of a great success. This talented band is led by James Green.

Also featured are Steve Green, Eddie Freeman, Gordan Arnold, Jackie Britt with regular guests such as Spanky Felter, J.J. Whitehead, I.R. Thornton, and an occasional visitor from out of town. Come and enjoy a great show with great local talent.
