NATCHEZ — As soon as the weather permits, crews will start work on wrapping up the continuous flow project at the intersection of Seargent S. Prentiss Drive and John R. Junkin Drive.

The project, which started three years ago, is on pace to be completed in early spring, Mississippi Department of Transportation Engineer Jim Eggleston said.

Eggleston said the lanes are approximately where they will be when the project is complete.

“The lanes will change a couple of feet one way or the other,” he said. “But there will not be a major change to the traffic anymore.”

For the next step, contractor W.E. Blain and Sons will come in to do some pre-leveling.

Eggleston said this is being done because there are some areas where the asphalt is a little lower than it should be. Then crews will lay the final two layers of asphalt.

“This is so you can get a smooth layer of asphalt over it, so it will be a good ride,” Eggleston said.

Once the road is smooth, Eggleston said they would add the final touches. Crews will dress the intersection up by adding grass and planting some trees.

The project cost just under $8 million.
