BATON ROUGE (AP) — Tuition costs at LSU campuses are on track to edge upward next school year.

The LSU Board of Supervisors agreed unanimously Friday to an increase of 5 percent for all of its four-year campuses and 4 percent for its two-year campus in Eunice. The increase still needs approval from the Legislature’s joint budget committee before it could take effect.

If approved, the tuition hike would generate an estimated $10.5 million for the schools.

But LSU officials note that’s not enough to offset $39 million in mandated cost increases, mainly in retirement, across the university system.

For students on LSU’s main campus, the annual increase would be $262, bringing tuition to $5,495, according to data from the Board of Regents.
