NATCHEZ — Services for Kerwanda Howard Morgan, 35, of Natchez, who died Thursday, March 9, 2010, at University Medical Center in Jackson, will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Daughter of Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. D.W. Howard officiating.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 1:30 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Morgan was born June 23, 1974, in Natchez, the daughter of Carrie Howard and Jack Johnson. She was a 1993 graduate of Natchez High School and a graduate of Advanced School of Cosmetology. She also attended Copiah-Lincoln Community College and was employed by CCA Prison System as a correction officer in Wilkinson County.

Mrs. Morgan was a member of Daughter of Zion Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father; godmother, Katie J. Watkins; two nephews, Herman Thompson Jr. and Ashton Noel Howard; maternal grandparents, the Rev. Shed Howard and Marie Howard; and paternal grandparents, Steve and Charlotte Johnson.

Survivors include her husband, Alphonse Morgan; one son, Najoriam Howard; one daughter, Najwaa Bass; her mother and stepfather, Clayton Holmes, of Natchez; one brother, Marion Pollard and wife, Bridgette; two sisters, Vonkeitha Howard and Ashley Howard, all of Natchez; nine aunts, Permelia Myles and husband, William, Sarah Howard, Elevor Reynolds, Eloise Tucker, Dorothy Carter and husband, Charles, Matilda Johnson, Pearlina Rice, Janie Hoggatt and Flora Mae Gooden; six uncles, Charles Howard of Brookhaven, the Rev. Willie Johnson and wife, Ann, of Bude, Shed Howard Jr. of Temple, Texas, Steve Johnson and wife, Bertha, Joe Johnson and wife, Regina, all of Bude, and Jeff Holmes Jr. of Natchez; godfather, Elder Samuel Watkins Sr. and wife, Pearlina, of Natchez; four godbrothers, Elder Samuel Watkins Jr. and wife, Carla, of Byrum, Gregory Watkins, Jimmy Watkins and Michael Watkins, all of Natchez; special friend and godmother to her children, Takara Gaines; two nieces, Breanna Pollard and Marieshala Ware; one nephew, Herman Howard; two special cousins, Charles Carter Jr. and Charell Carter; and special friend, C.J. Smith.

Pallbearers will be officers of Wilkinson County Correctional Facility.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charell Carter, Herman Howard, Jarthur Holmes, Izeacartrell Holmes, Charles Carter Jr. and Najoriam Howard.
