NATCHEZ — A Natchez man is in police custody after allegedly shooting an acquaintance at a convenience store Sunday.

Travis Conner, 30, 2944 Miller Ave., was arrested after having an altercation with Peter Jones, 27, 1211 Millette St., at the T&C Quick Stop on Aldrich Street at 1:54 p.m, Natchez Police Lt. Craig Godbold said.

As Jones walked out of the store, Conner allegedly pulled out a pistol and shot Jones once in the left thigh and once in the left hand, Godbold said.

Jones was transported to a local hospital and released Sunday.

Godbold said Conner fled the scene, and police were dispatched to Conner’s house.

“We found (Conner’s vehicle at the house), but he had left,” Godbold said.

Conner eventually turned himself in at the police department.

Godbold said he is not certain why the Conner and Jones are at odds, but suspects a girl is involved.

“These two have been having problems for the past couple of months,” Godbold said. “We believe there’s a girl involved. There’s one girlfriend and two boyfriends.”

Conner is charged with aggravated assault and is being held at the Natchez City Jail without bond.
