MONTEREY — For three innings, Monterey’s Paige Bryan had her way with Block both on the mound and at the plate.

That turned out to be a good thing for the Lady Wolves as they held on for a 7-6 win over the Lady Bears Friday afternoon.

Bryan, who went the distance for Monterey, kept Block off the scoreboard in the first three innings. She also had what proved to be a pivotal two-run triple in the bottom of the third inning that gave the Lady Wolves at the time a commanding 5-0 lead. They were aided by four Lady Bears errors.

Then Block started hitting the ball better and took advantage of three Monterey errors, which allowed the Lady Bears to finally get some runs across home plate. They scored one run in the top of the fourth and two runs in the top of the fifth to make it a 5-3 ball game. But in the bottom of the fifth, Monterey (7-10) scored two runs, including an RBI triple by Bryan that put the Lady Wolves ahead 7-3.

But the Lady Bears would not go away quietly. They pushed across one run in the top of the sixth and two in the top of the seventh for a 7-6 game, but Bryan shut the door on Block to end the comeback attempt.

Bryan allowed eight hits but she also struck out seven batters and walked none in picking up the win. She finished 2-for-3 at the plate with the three RBIs. Karlee Woodruff also had a triple while Ashley Wilson was 2-for-3 with a double.

Molly Swayze led Block at the plate as she went 2-for-4 with a double.

Franklin County 2, Choudrant 1

ALEXANDRIA, La. — Franklin County scored one run in each of the first two innings and that proved to be just enough as the Lady Bulldogs held on to defeat the Choudrant Lady Aggies Friday afternoon at the Grace Christian Tournament.

In what turned out to be Franklin County’s toughest game of the season so far, the Lady Bulldogs had 11 hits in the game, but they left a lot of runners stranded. But a strong performance on the mound from Destiney Dedeaux made up for the lack of offense.

Dedeaux pitched four straight scoreless innings before giving up one run in the bottom of the fifth. She held Choudrant to just five hits in the game in picking up the win.

Allison Hauer, Latoya Griffin and Desiree Buie each had two hits for Franklin County, which improved its record to 10-0. The Lady Bulldogs take on Houma Christian today at 11 a.m.
