FAYETTE — A Fayette woman has been sentenced to five years under house arrest and fined $10,000 for attempting to smuggle contraband into the Jefferson County Correctional Facility in 2009.

Liniee Shay Winston, 31, 2936 River Road, entered an open plea to five separate counts before Jefferson County Circuit Court Judge Lamar Pickard. By entering an open plea, Winston refused to accept the state’s recommended sentence and relied on the mercy of the court, Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood said in a news release.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office arrested Wilson for attempting to smuggle marijuana, cell phones and liquor into the Jefferson County Correctional Facility for inmate Demon Clopton, 30. Clopton was incarcerated for the sale and possession and cocaine.
