NATCHEZ — It’s been a slow rehabilitation process for Trinity pitcher Jordan Dossett as he recovers from a shoulder injury.

But if Monday’s performance is any indication, Dossett is recovering quite nicely.

Dossett pitched a four-inning no-hitter and struck out seven batters as Trinity romped over Tallulah 15-0 at Chester Willis Field.

“My arm felt really good tonight,” Dossett said. “This is the best it’s felt all year. Tonight is the first time I’ve felt like my actual self. It’s a big relief to know that my arm feels better.”

Trinity coach Mitch Ashmore said he has brought Dossett along slowly as he recovers from ligament tears and a dislocated shoulder.

And the strategy has worked, as Dossett seems to be gaining strength as the playoffs get closer.

“He’s probably fresher now than he has been in a year,” Ashmore said. “I’m happy for him, because playing with a sore arm is never any fun. He feels good, and he gave us some quality innings and got some good work in.”

In addition to his fine pitching performance, Dossett also came through at the plate, hitting two doubles and collecting six RBI.

“I felt really comfortable at the plate,” Dossett said. “I was really focused up there.”

Trinity jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The first run scored on a Tallulah error and the second came home when Dossett was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Sky Logan followed that with a two-run single to get the Saints off to a good start.

Trinity scored four more runs in the bottom of the second inning, with three coming off the bat of Dossett.

With the bases loaded and two outs, Dossett crushed a ball into the gap for a three-run double that made the score 7-0.

Joseph McClatchy, who was Dossett’s courtesy runner, scored a few pitches later on a wild pitch.

After Dossett retired Tallulah in order in the top of the third inning, the Saints put the game out of reach in the bottom of the frame.

Trevor Faust walked with the bases loaded to drive in a run before Jake Winston drove in another with a sacrifice fly.

Dossett then hit another double that drove in two more runs, and once again McClatchy scored on a wild pitch after coming in to run for Dossett.

The final two runs scored on a bases-loaded walk by Andrew Moroney and a RBI single by Givonni Dent.

Dossett retired Tallulah in order again in the fourth inning, and the game was called due to the mercy rule.

Trinity improved its record to 8-5 overall and 5-0 in district play.

The Saints will travel to take on Tallulah again at 4 p.m. Thursday.

“I thought we handled ourselves well in a game like this,” Ashmore said. “We want to play the same way whether we’re up big, down big, or tied, and we did a good job of that tonight.”
