FERRIDAY — A man was injured and another man jailed following a Wednesday night shooting incident in Ferriday.
Jaron Karl Washington, 21, 118 Shady Lane, was arrested on charges of second-degree battery following the incident.
The victim, Leroy Leonard, had been shot in the arm, with the bullet traveling through the arm and lodging in the area of his chest, Ferriday Assistant Police Chief Johnny Evans said.
Officers responded to the Concordia Drive incident at approximately 9 p.m.
“According to some statements that were made, word is Mr. Leonard has been going to Mr. Washington’s job wanting to fight him because he thinks Mr. Washington has been messing with his girlfriend,” Evans said.
The suspect allegedly used a handgun, though what kind is unknown at this time because the gun has not been recovered and the bullet was still lodged in the victim at the time of the arrest, Evans said.
The victim was initially treated at Riverland Medical Center before he was transported to Christus St. Francis Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, where he is currently resting and comfortable, Evans said.
The matter remains under investigation.
Washington was detained Thursday on a $35,000 bond.
