Monterey softball rallies past Glenmora

MONTEREY — Sarah Sims’ three-run triple highlighted a five-run rally in the bottom of the fourth inning as the Monterey Lady Wolves defeated the Glenmora Lady Wildcats 7-2 in District 6-B action Thursday afternoon.

For three and a half innings, the game was a pitchers’ duel between Monterey’s Paige Bryan and Glenmora’s J. Johnson. Neither team was able to get on the scoreboard until the Lady Wolves went to the plate in the home half of the fourth inning.

Taylor Morace started it off with a single, Bryan walked and Casey White singled to brin in Morace with the game’s first run. Ashley Wilson walked to load the bases and Sims cleared the bases with her triple that give Monterey a 4-0 lead. Ellen Bairnsfather then singled in Sims to make it a 5-0 game.

Monterey (11-13, 3-5) scored one run in the bottom of the fifth before Glenmora plated two runs in the top of the sixth. The Lady Wolves got one of those runs back in the bottom of the sixth and Bryan shut out the Lady Wildcats in the top of the seventh.

Sims went 2-for-3 while Karlee Woodruff was 2-for-3 with a double and Bairnsfather went 2-for-4.

Losing pitcher J. Johnson as well as another player named J. Johnson each had a double while W. Bradford and A. Melder each went 2-for-3 for Glenmora (3-4 in District 6-B).
