Trinity pounds Tallulah 18-3

TALLULAH, La. — Jordan Dossett hit a two-run home run and Givonni Dent allowed just one run in four innings as the Trinity Episcopal Saints defeated the Tallulah Academy Trojans 18-3 Thursday afternoon in an MAIS District 6-A game.

Trinity Episcopal scored 11 runs in the top of the sixth inning to end the game early and remain undefeated with a pair of games against rival Huntington next week to go in district play.

The Saints jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Trojans managed to score one run off Dent in the bottom of the first, but they would not score another run until the bottom of the fifth. The Saints scored two runs in the top of the third and one in the top of the fifth before the Trojans scored their final two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Then Trinity Episcopal (9-5, 6-0) broke the game wide open in the top of the sixth. The Saints ended up with 16 hits while Tallulah Academy’s defense had its issues by committing at least six errors.

In addition to his home run, Dossett had a double and went 3-for-5. Kent King was 3-for-4 and Dent helped his own cause by going 3-for-5 at the plate. Daniel Dunaway had a double and went 2-for-4.

Tallulah Academy was led by Jes Shivers, who went 3-for-4, and Cody Landreau, who had a double.

Monterey 14, Glenmora 9

MONTEREY, La. — Monterey’s Hunter Frey was the winning pitcher and went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs batted in to lead the Wolves past the Glenmora Wildcats Thursday afternoon in a District 6-B game.

Glenmora led 3-1 heading after two and a half innings before Monterey took the lead for good with a five-run rally in the bottom of the third inning. The Wildcats made it a one-run game in the top of the fourth, but the Wolves plated three runs in the bottom of the fourth and five in the bottom of the fifth to take a commanding 14-5 lead.

The Wildcats tried to put the pressure on the Wolves by scoring four runs in the top of the sixth, but it was not enough.

George Gonzales and Ross Lipsey each had a double for Monterey (7-9, 5-1). Even though Glenmora had nine hits in the game, none went for extra bases and the Wildcats had just one multiple hitter – Nico Bradford, who went 2-for-5.
