Werdna McMurchy

FAYETTE — Services for Werdna Puffer McMurchy, 95, of Winston-Salem, N.C., formerly of Fayette, who died Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010, in Winston-Salem, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fayette Methodist Church.

Burial will follow at Fayette City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until service Saturday at the church.

Mrs. McMurchy was born March 9, 1915, in Fayette, the daughter of Andrew Carothers Puffer and Susie Vivian Stephens Puffer. She was a 1932 graduate of Fayette High School and a 1936 graduate of Bellehaven College, home of the Cherokee rose, in Jackson. She taught school for a number of years in Fayette.

Mrs. McMurchy was an active member of Fayette Methodist Church, the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Pilgrimage Garden Club of Natchez.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Randolph McMurchy; one daughter, Sue; and one sister, Louise.

Survivors include one son, Dr. Charles Randolph McMurchy Jr. of Winston-Salem; one granddaughter, Richelle Sheppard of Paris, France; and one grandson, Randy Howder of San Francisco.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fayette Methodist Church or Fayette Cemetery Fund.
