City crews were busy demolishing the remains of a Natchez downtown building after it reportedly collapsed at 1:45 Tuesday morning.

According to city officials the south wall of the building that sits on the northeast corner of Martin Luther King Jr. and Franklin streets fell into the building early Tuesday morning. Due to the unstable conditions left by the remaining structure, city crews tore down the building Tuesday. Portions of Martin Luther King Jr. Street and Franklin Street will be closed most of the morning until crews can clean up the demolished building. Afterward, one lane of traffic will be open in both streets until the area is made safe, city officials said.

The building was vacant. No one on the street was injured at the time of the collapse. The incident is under investigation.
