NATCHEZ — Services for Susie James Latham, 85, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Natchez, who died Friday, April 9, 2010, in Houston, will be at noon Saturday at Christian Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. John Scott Jr. officiating.
Burial will follow at Pine Hill Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Latham was born March 3, 1925, in Natchez, the daughter of the Rev. Willie H. James and Susie Early James. She was in the Natchez public school system and was a graduate of Alcorn A&M College with a bachelor of science degree in home economics and was also a graduate of the University of Wisconsin with a master of science degree in nutrition. During her professional career, she served as an educator in area of home economics at Brumfield School, Sadie V. Thompson High School, North Natchez High School and South Natchez High School. She retired in 1988 after a 42 year career.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J.C. Latham; and one sister, Helen Latham.
Survivors include one daughter, Alease L. Young and husband, James; and one son, Dr. Jerry C. Latham and wife, Janette; three grandsons, Okpare and wife, Tallbah, Jerry II and Nobel; five great-granddaughters, Aisha, Kanika, Jamila and husband, Marcus, Lauren and Alyssa; three great-grandchildren, Ozaze, Solon and Zea; one sister, Nance Pernell; one sister-in-law, Thelma Latham; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
