We must save crumbling pieces of history

The Natchez Democrat report of the Natchez Preservation Commission meeting of April 14 was very accurate and well written. I congratulate Cassandra Mickens on a job well done.

I would like to make further comments. The commission reluctantly approved the demolition of The Landing due to its condition and lack of architectural integrity.

Under-the-Hill originally was an intermingling of brick commercial buildings and many small frame cottages.

The Wharfmaster is the only one of these cottages left and, therefore, of historical significance.

It is for this reason the commission hopes Mr. Biglane will appropriately maintain the Wharfmaster. The Biglane family has restored many of the Under-the-Hill building which the commission deeply appreciates.

In view of the deterioration of the Four Points building and the recent demolition by neglect of several others, this request is most important.
