NATCHEZ — The 17-year-old victim in the April 11 shooting on Sheppard Road is out of the hospital and has spoken to Adams County Sheriff’s Office investigators.

Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said according to John McClellan Jr., Sonya Irene Robertson allegedly shot him with a .22 rifle because he was about to leave Robertson’s house.

“As he was leaving she got mad and shot at him three times,” Mayfield said. “The evidence shows that she did not fire two warning shots in the air, as (Robertson) told us.”

Mayfield said one bullet hit the windshield of a vehicle, another hit McClellan and the third bullet is unaccounted for. Mayfield said all three casings were recovered.

Robertson claimed that she shot McClellan in self-defense because he would not leave after the two had an argument, Mayfield said.

McClellan claims that Robertson fired all three bullets at him as he was leaving, the sheriff said.

“Basically, what it boils down to is he said she said,” Mayfield said. “There are no other witnesses that we are able to question.”

Mayfield said the evidence points toward Robertson shooting at McClellan three times. The sheriff’s office will present the case to the grand jury to see if there is enough to indict her, and decide where to go from there, Mayfield said.

In a previous report, Mayfield said there was a couple with a 2-year-old toddler asleep in the back room who claimed to have not heard anything.

Robertson, 28, 16 Sheppard Road, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault (domestic violence).
