NATCHEZ — A drug blitz resulted in the arrest of 11 alleged drug users and dealers in Adams County Wednesday.

The roundup was the second for Sheriff Chuck Mayfield, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and Metro Narcotics.

Deputies had hoped to issue 18 warrants Wednesday, but were pleased with the progress they did make, Mayfield said.

“We do still have several warrants for people that we will be picking up over the next few days,” Mayfield said. “We will pick up stragglers that we didn’t get today and some others in the upcoming days.”

Three teams, each with six warrants, left the station at approximately 8 a.m. to make the arrests.

After assisting in his third arrest of the morning, sheriff’s Investigator Gerald Mooney said the day had gone well, but he wished they had been able to serve 100 percent of the warrants.

“(Catching drug dealers) is like fishing,” Mooney said. “You are going to catch some and lose some.”

Mayfield said the important aspect was that nobody got hurt, and he credited that to reconnaissance.

“Intelligence did a good job finding out where they frequent as well as their residence,” Mayfield said. “We caught several who were not at their homes, but were located where they hang out.

“For every suspect, we have pages and pages of intelligence.”

The Mississippi Department of Corrections and the Natchez Police Department also had officers participating in this task.
