VIDALIA — The day after federal agents briefly took over the Vidalia Police Department as part of an ongoing but unspecified investigation, regular operations have resumed at the department.

“Operations are normal,” Police Chief Ronnie G. “Tapper” Hendricks said. “We are a police station; we are open 24-7; we are doing patrols.”

The chief said he was unable to comment on the federal investigation.

Agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with the Louisiana State Police, arrived without prior notice at the Vidalia Police Department Tuesday morning.

The group of outside law enforcement officials arrived in both marked and unmarked vehicles and restricted access into the department for several hours while performing a search.

FBI Special Agent Sheila and ATF Spokesperson Austin Banks said the matter was a joint investigation between the agencies.

The two spokespersons disclosed that the investigation was a criminal matter and that the actions taken Tuesday were to serve a search warrant.

Both Thorne and Banks said no additional information could be disclosed at the time, including who or what the investigation was about.

Thorne said no arrests were made.
