NATchez — Five local Girl Scouts earned their Gold Award during a recent ceremony in Hattiesburg.

The Girl Scouts of Greater Mississippi hosted a 2009-2010 awards ceremony at the Southern Oaks House and Garden on May 16.

Among those honored were five Adams County scouts who achieved the highest level of girl scouting, Valyncia Alexander, Deonica Thomas, Marquita bates, Suquetta Sewell and Keundra Washington.

Six girls from Wilkinson County received their Bronze Awards. They are Destinee Adams, Latricia Harrison, Alexis Jones, Amanda Montgomery, Patrice Smith and Kiara Burkes.
