NATCHEZ — While a Natchez resident was fishing in the Mississippi River Thursday, he caught a glimpse of what he correctly suspected was the top of a car.

After the fisherman alerted the Adams County Sheriff’s Office at 1 p.m., deputies and the Coast Guard used a wrecker to pull out a stolen 2007 maroon Ford Taurus, ACSO Investigator Maj. Ricky Stevens said.

Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said the car was stolen last week from Ferriday resident Angelina Johnson.

Stevens said the car was poking out of the water 30 yards from a public ramp at the port.

He said it did not appear like the car had been there for too long. No bodies were found in the car.

“All that was in there was goo and catfish,” Metro Narcotics Commander David Lindsey said.
