Busy summer brings good news

The summer lull just hasn’t made it to the Miss-Lou yet this year.

The hot days have been busy ones for many local residents, but it’s been a “good” busy.

Let’s review a few great headlines from last week.

The regionalism sub-committee meetings have been ongoing for weeks now, with the latest leadership group meeting last week. These committees continue to bring a wide range of community members together to discuss ideas that will make our community a better place to live.

The new Natchez city planner began work last week, attending his first planning commission meeting on Thursday. We are happy to have Robert Nix in town and ready to work.

Groups of area residents are serious about early morning workouts, despite the sweltering temperatures. A boot camp program sponsored by Natchez Regional Medical Center encourages locals to get in shape and get healthy. Several free morning workouts are offered at Duncan Park each week. This is a great community program and we are glad to see residents taking advantage of it.

Another health-minded program brought area business owners and employees together to learn about keeping the workplace not only safe, but healthy. Natchez Community Hospital sponsored the luncheon and speaker, who shared informative tips with the group.

The youth of Jefferson Street United Methodist Church always seem to be doing something for the local community and beyond. Last week was no different. The teens participated in missions week, doing projects around the area with groups such as Habitat for Humanity and the Boys & Girls Club. Thanks to these young people for their work.

As a new week begins, we can’t help but expect a summer slow down soon, yet, we know life in the Miss-Lou is never dull.
