Fun-filled July 4th weekend sets good tone

Many of you are likely still enjoying the long weekend, and we hope it’s been a great one.

The weekend was certainly packed full of fun, with the annual Lake St. John Flotilla Saturday and the Natchez fireworks Sunday there were plenty of chances to show your red, white and blue spirit.

And two large high school reunions — Sadie V. Thompson and Vidalia High schools — filled both area convention centers and reunited many old friends.

But the great news of the last week began well before the weekend. Let’s review a few other highlights.

Robert Lewis Middle School student E’Keria Williams has been awarded the title of All-American Scholar. This energetic, driven student is a great role model for her classmates. We know she’s going to make a difference in the world around her.

Alumni of Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s Natchez campus met this week to begin forming a local alumni chapter. Co-Lin plays a large role in our community, and has educated a large number of locals. Organizing an alumni chapter could certainly add to that impact.

A small group of Ferriday residents is seeking to create a new garden club, focused entirely on cleaning up the south side of town. The group plans to lean on the successful Ferriday Garden Club and then launch a community clean-up effort.

Certainly the most noteworthy part of the last week was the celebration of our country. We are lucky to live in America and in the Miss-Lou.
