VIDALIA — Kade Passman pitched a complete game while Jake Cooper and Jake Barlow each hit key home runs as the Concordia Dixie Youth 12-year-old All-Stars defeated South Franklin 7-1 Monday afternoon.

Passman gave up one run on one hit — a solo home run by Justin Robbins in the top of the second inning — and struck out 14 batters to pick up the win.

“Kade Passman did an outstanding job. He gave up a solo home run. After fouling off three pitches, we debated on what pitch to call. He hung a curve ball and (Robbins) hit it out. That’s my fault for calling a curve ball,” Concordia coach Whest Shirley said. “He had 14 strikeouts in six innings. He did a heck of a job tonight.”

And Concordia once again needed a strong performance on the mound as it at times struggled at the plate.

Concordia scored one run in the bottom of the first before Robbins’ home run tied the game at 1-1 heading into the bottom of the second inning. That’s when Cooper hit a solo shot to give Concordia the lead for good at 2-1.

Barlow hit his home run during a four-run rally in the bottom of the third inning that put Concordia ahead 6-1. The home team added another run in the bottom of the fourth.

“I’m still not impressed with our hitting.” Shirley said. “We’ve got to hit the ball a whole lot better if we’re going to beat Winnsboro.”

Cooper was the only multiple hitter for Concordia as he went 2-for-3.

The Concordia Dixie Youth 12-year-old All-Stars take on Winnsboro today at 6 p.m.
