MAGEE — The players and coaching staff of the Natchez Dixie Youth 11-year-old All-Stars team apparently got over Saturday night’s controversial 3-0 loss to Pascagoula quickly.

And Natchez hit the ball better than it did less than 24 hours earlier. Led by Zac Flattman, Gage Dossett and Dalvion Jackson, Natchez ended up with 14 hits in an 11-1 win over Wayne County in just four innings in an elimination game Sunday afternoon at the South Regional Tournament.

“They came out fired up knowing that game was behind them,” Natchez coach Gary Farmer said. “They came out hitting the ball really well. We hit like we know how to hit tonight. We hit very timely.”

Natchez took advantage of the fact that it was the visiting team and batting first as it scored four runs in the top of the first inning and took a 4-1 lead at the end of that inning. Dossett, who went 2-for-3 at the plate, drove in three of Natchez’s four runs in the top of the second inning with a home run.

Jackson, who also went 2-for-3, hit a solo home run in the top of the third inning as Natchez would take a commanding 10-1 lead. Flattman had a big game as well as he went 3-for-3 with a double.

“We got multiple hits in order in the first inning,” Farmer said. “We hit the ball in the second inning and Gage hit the three-run home run. That fired us up.”

Natchez would tack on one more run in the top of the fourth inning. Brock Farmer, who had already pitched a scoreless bottom of the third inning, did so again in the bottom of the fourth to end the game early.

Christian Day was the winning pitcher as he started the game and went two innings. He allowed one run on two hits and struck out two. Farmer also allowed two hits and struck out one. And the defense was stellar as Natchez committed no errors.

“They played good defense as usual. Christian and Brock pitched good. Wayne County’s got a good team, but we never gave them a chance to establish themselves tonight,” coach Farmer said.

The Natchez 11-year-old All-Stars will have a day off before returning to action on Tuesday at 8 p.m. against either Pascagoula, Hattiesburg or Laurel.
