LAKE CHARLES, La. — The Concordia Dixie Youth 13-year-old All-Stars jumped out to an early 4-1 lead over Thibodaux in the single-elimination portion of the state tournament Monday morning, but couldn’t hang on.
Concordia was done in by the elements and a lack of pitching. Thibodaux took advantage to rally for a 17-7 win in six innings. The game took place despite the fact that it rained for much of the morning in Lake Charles.
“We were playing in a driving rainstorm. Wet ball and inexperience,” Concordia 13s coach Kevin Jenkins said. “We had one good pitcher in Lester Wells. After that, it was pitching by committee. Pitching count is important. We just didn’t have enough arms.”
Jadarius Anderson hit a three-run home run in the top of the first inning as Concordia scored four runs before Thibodaux got to bat. After that, the momentum of the game swung in Thibodaux’s favor and it never looked back.
“It just wasn’t our day. Had we won, we would have had to have played at 4 p.m. It was time for us to go,” Jenkins said. “But we have some great kids and we made some lifelong friends. We played four games and loved every minute of it.”
Kenneth Jordan went 3-for-3 while Christian Jenkins was 2-for-2 with a double for Concordia.
