PEARL — All watches and warnings associated with Tropical Depression Bonnie have been canceled for the Mississippi Gulf Coast as Bonnie continues to weaken as it moves across the Gulf of Mexico. Forecasters do not expect this storm to strengthen much before making landfall late tonight or Sunday morning.

However, coastal residents are still urged to take the proper precautions as the storm will bring heavy rainfall, elevated wave action and potentially high winds.

“While the forecast for the storm is encouraging, we still want our residents to be prepared for any potential impacts,” MEMA Director Mike Womack said. “This is a good time to make sure you have a fully stocked emergency supply kit and a family communication plan in place.”

Residents who live in low-lying areas prone to flooding during heavy rainfall should continue to take precautions. Even if no evacuation orders are issued, residents living in non-stable housing such as travel trailers or mobile homes should seek more sturdy shelter.

MEMA and other key state agencies will continue to monitor the storm until the threat has passed and release updated information.
