Cathedral golf tournament postponed

NATCHEZ — Thanks to floodwaters at the Beau Pré golf course, Cathedral’s Fall Festival golf tournament has been rescheduled.
Originally planned for Saturday, the event has been moved to Sept. 11.
Event planner Tim McCann said the flood damage at Beau Pré was too extensive to have the tournament this weekend.
“(U.S. 61 South) got more damage than anywhere else. A few holes are unplayable due to a bridge being damaged, but they’ll get it all fixed and have it in good condition for Sept. 11,” McCann said.
Because of the rescheduling, the tournament may both gain and lose teams, he added.
“We had 20 teams signed up for it, and now we have a chance to lose teams because people made other plans that weekend. Hopefully they’ll keep the teams together,” McCann said.
“We also have the opportunity to gain some teams, since it will give us more time for people to sign up. It’s kind of a double-edged sword.”
Gary Farmer, chairman for the Cathedral Fall Festival, said other events were planned to raise money in addition to the golf tournament.
“We’ll have our tennis tournament Sept. 25 and 26, and Oct. 9 and 10 will be a big family day at Cathedral,” Farmer said.
Events at the family day include cake walks, pie throws, various games and raffle bidding, Farmer said. The event takes place 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 9, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 10. Adult night will be Oct. 9 from 6 to 10 p.m.
“It’s our largest fundraiser for Cathedral all year. This year, we’ll be giving away a Bad Boy Buggie.”
