FAYETTE — Services for Jerry “Cowboy” Turner, 53, of Fayette, who died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pine Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Percy Turner officiating.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home in Fayette.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Mr. Turner was born May 2, 1957, in Fayette, the son of Warren Turner Sr. and Rosie Carradine Turner.

Jerry joined the Pine Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. J.H. McField. He served as a dedicated choir member at Pine Grove and at Rose Hill No. 1 until his health failed.

Jerry never met a stranger. He would always keep his calendar close by to send a card or give a telephone call to everyone he knew on their birthday. Although he was an avid sportsman, his greatest love was a horse. He worked several years in construction, but his greatest joy was the opportunity to work the New Orleans Jazz Fest.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his little sister, Helen Turner; and big brothers, Moses Turner and Warren Turner Jr.

Survivors include one daughter who was the star of his eyes, Joceline Turner; four sisters, Ruby Clark, Rosie Turner, Lou Etta Jackson and husband, Stonewall, and Shirley Oliver and husband, James, all of Fayette; eight brothers, Will T. Turner and wife, Florence, Robert Turner and wife, Willye Jean, and Percy Turner and wife, Hilda, all of Fayette, Earnest Turner and wife, Irene, of Dallas, William Turner, Aaron Turner and wife, Linda, James Turner and wife, Leotyne, and Nathan Turner and wife, Jackie, all of New Orleans; two aunts, Clara Reed and Mildred Graves; one uncle, John Carradine; one sister-in-law, Mary Turner, all of Fayette; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, special caregivers and friends.
