NATCHEZ — Services for Michael Lee Sewell, 51, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Natchez, who died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010, in Copiah County, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Egypt Baptist Church in Kingston with the Rev. Ernest Ford Sr. officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Bateaste Memorial Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mr. Sewell was born April 23, 1959, in Natchez, the son of Shelby Lee and Christine Sewell. He attended North Natchez High School and Copiah-Lincoln Community College. He was employed by Total Transportation.
Mr. Sewell was a member of Egypt Baptist Church and served as a deacon. He enjoyed race cars, barbecuing, socializing, and loved his family.
He was preceded in death by his father; grandparents, Walter and Ethel Sewell, Henry Turner and Catherine Turner Pearl; four uncles, Walter and Isaac Sewell, Gerald Matthews and Percy Turner; and one brother-in-law, John Nelson.
Survivors include his wife of eight years, Gloria Nelson Sewell; one daughter, Yolanda Sconniers of Atlanta; one son, LaJon Nelson of Memphis; his dedicated mother of Natchez; two sisters, Shirley Mathews and husband, James, and Christine Sewell Johnson, all of Natchez; three aunts, Luticia Williams and husband, Archie, and Floridasten Ivory, all of Natchez, and Margaret Hills of Houston, Texas; three uncles, Walter Turner and wife, Hilda, and Willie Turner, all of Houston, and Wilbert Turner of Baton Rouge; two nephews, Kevin Sewell and Ryan Shelby Johnson, both of Natchez, one niece, Jamiyah Gilmore of Natchez; one godsister, Myra Hoskin Pickett of Cypress, Texas; mother-in-law, Faye Nelson of Memphis; two sisters-in-law, Patty Jean Norton of Tampa, Fla., and Kathy Nelson of Memphis; one brother-in-law, Kelvin Johnson of Falls Church, Va.; two special cousins, Renne Sewell Carr of Natchez and Kimble Matthews of Philadelphia, Pa.; one goddaughter, Ebony Daniell Brown of Dallas; one godson, Demorius Jackson of Jackson; and special friends, Kenneth Green, Charles Flowers, Francis Brown Sr. and David Lewis.
Pallbearers will be Charles Flowers, Michael Green Sr., David Lewis, Kenneth Green, Ray Carr Sr., Jessie Turner, Ricky Evans and Michael Woods.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Shelby Johnson, Kevin Sewell, Walter Sewell Jr., Eric Sewell, Efrem Sewell, Esq., Willis Ivory Jr., Kelvin Johnson and James Mathews III.
