NATCHEZ — The man suspected of robbing the downtown Regions Bank branch last month has been arrested in Texas.

The FBI arrested Douglas Edward Ford, 46, of San Antonio without incident at about 10:30 a.m. Friday in San Antonio.

Authorities in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and New Mexico are looking into the possibility that Ford is responsible for robberies committed in their states since March.

On Aug. 16, a white male between the ages of 35 and 50 wearing a light blue T-shirt, khaki shorts, tennis shoes and a white baseball cap bearing the letter “F” entered Regions Bank in Natchez, and presented a letter to the teller demanding cash. According to witnesses, the suspect did not appear to be armed, and no injuries were reported.

The FBI says the identical method and serial nature of the robberies occurred in a regional area, leading officials to dub the robber the “Bayou Banidt.”

Ford was arrested on a federal warrant issued in Louisiana.
