FERRIDAY — Services for Edith LaPrairie Champlin Colvin, 84, of Ferriday, who died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, La., will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ferriday First Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Gray officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Colvin was born July 4, 1926, in Argo, La., the daughter of Batist C. LaPrairie and Sarah Normand LaPrairie. She was a member of Ferriday First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Colvin was affectionately known to her grandchildren as “Granny.”

She was preceded in death by husbands, Thomas C. Champlin and Archie Colvin; her parents; two sisters, Mary Hedrick and Mildred Woodsen; and five brothers, George LaPrairie, Elert LaPrairie, Woodrow LaPrairie, and infant brothers, Daniel and Roger LaPrairie.

Survivors include one daughter, Freda Williams and husband, Ray, of Ferriday; three sons, Tommy Champlin and wife, Bonnie, and Benny Champlin and wife, Ann, all of Jonesville, and Ronny Champlin and wife, Judy, of Baton Rouge; 13 grandchildren, Todd Vinson, Mark Vinson, Tara Hudson, Chad Champlin, Natasha Young, Courtney Champlin, Shelley Champlin, Dareth Delhoste, Mindy Champlin-Camp, Justin Champlin, Jessica Appleby, Jared Champlin and Jenna Burnham; 18 great-grandchildren; three stepdaughters, Sharron Smith of Zachary, La., Sandra McGlothin of Ferriday and Vickie Hall of Shreveport, La.; one sister, Mearle Cole of Deville, La.; and one brother, Ralph LaPrairie of Port Allen, La.

Pallbearers will be Chad Champlin, Justin Champlin, Todd Vinson, Mark Vinson, Jeff Young and David Hudson.

Honorary pallbearer will be Jared Champlin.
