Vikings no match for Eagles

VIDALIA — Vidalia hosted Ouachita Christian Friday night in a game that went from a blowout, to a comeback, to a blowout.
But in the end, it was the Eagles who left Vidalia with a 56-10 victory.
Ouachita managed two scores in the first quarter through the air as Ouachita’s quarterback was torching the VHS secondary for big chunks of yardage. The no-huddle offense kept the Vidalia defense on its toes from start to finish.
Late in the second quarter OCS scored two more times, taking the score to 26-0.
Vidalia, however, managed a scoring drive of their own, the first offensive score of the season for the Vikings. Following the score, the Vidalia defense came up with a big stop, forcing the Eagles to punt from their own end zone. A long snap sent the ball sailing out of the back of the end zone, giving the Vikings a safety, adding 10 points just before the half.
After halftime, though, the Eagles no-huddle offense went back to work, putting up 22 points in the third quarter, mainly on the ground. However, a hold negated a 77-yard touchdown run by Eagles’ quarterback Paul Michael Garner in the third quarter.
The Eagles offense picked up big chunks of yardage on the ground as well as a few big passing plays throughout the second half. The Vikings defense never had an answer for the no-huddle, fast-paced offense run by the Eagles.
Vidalia had multiple opportunities to score. Many miscues held them out of the end zone. Poor blocking and dropped passes were the Achilles heel for the Vikings.
“We need to concentrate and eliminate those (dropped passes). We’re having problems with our offensive line. If (Caleb) has time, he can throw the ball,” Parnham said.
Injuries also seemed to be a factor for the Vidalia Vikings. Vines and many others came off the field with cramps.
“It was very humid tonight. We condition as much as we can,” Parnham said.
The biggest injury for the Vikings was when Aaron Willis was injured and driven off the field in an ambulance.
“It was a crack-back block. Aaron was chasing down the quarterback. I’m not certain of what the injury is. Aaron was having a hard time breathing when he was laying on the field,” Parnham said.
As the clock continuously ran in the fourth quarter, both teams sent out their second stringers to get in some reps.
Vidalia freshman Michael Whitley looked sharp in his first drive, completing a 32-yard strike to Reggie Reynolds. Whitley also scrambled for two first downs. Whitley displayed some great athleticism and gave the Vikings a spark, however it wasn’t enough.
