NATCHEZ — Services for Annie Hill Murray, 87, of Natchez, who left her earthly home and entered her heavenly home Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, in Natchez, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Roy Tidwell officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Natchez.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at Laird’s Funeral Home.

Mrs. Murray was born July 26, 1923, in Beulah, the daughter of Wiliam Earnest Hill and Mildred Gertrude Calcote Hill. On July 25, 1942, she married her loving and devoted husband of 50 years, James Edward Murray in Natchez.

Mrs. Murray was the last charter member of Immanuel Baptist Church. She was a devoted and faithful member. She was the outreach leader for her Sunday school class and hostess for the class Christmas party each year. She was a member of the ceramics class from First Baptist Church and made many beautiful pieces for her Sunday school class, church members, family and friends. These will be cherished by family members and friends as tokens of her love for each of them.

Mrs. Murray was one of the first ladies to be hired by the Natchez Police Department as a police officer, where she retired after more than 35 years. She and her husband served on the Natchez Police Department at the same time. Mrs. Murray will be remembered as crossing guard at Carpenter Two School and at Braden School for many years where she met and helped many children whom she loved and loved her. While serving on the Natchez Police Department she was a member of the Mississippi Peace Officers Association.

Mrs. Murray was preceded in death by her parents, her devoted and loving husband, James Edward “Ed” Murray; one brother, W.E. “Junior” Hill, Jr.; and one sister, Geneva Hill Barfield.

Survivors include two wonderful caring children, Edward Lee Murray and wife, Rachel, and Shirley Ann Murray Buckley and husband, Howard, all of Natchez; four grandchildren, James Lloyd Murray and wife, Linda, of Natchez, Michelle Murray Donald, and husband, David, of Natchez, Kevin R. Kammerdeiner and wife, Rhonda, of Hattiesburg, and Leigh Ann Kammerdeiner Davis and husband, Walter, of Brandon; eight great-grandchildren, Ashley T. Murray, Emily D. Murray, James Lee “Jamey” Murray, Murray D. Donald, Eli H. Donald, Dillon Kammerdeiner, Cole Kammerdeiner, and Haley Reese Davis; one sister, Helen Francis Hill Murray of Bude; a number of nieces and nephews; and her beloved pet and companion Chaps.

Pallbearers will be Glenn Murray Mike Murray, David Donald, George Allen Myers and Danny Ray Weeks.

Honorary pallbearers will be LeRoy Davis and deacons of Immanuel Baptist Church.
