FERRIDAY — Services for Lenton “L.J.” Guidry Sr., 81, of Ferriday, who died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, at the Veterans Administration Hospital Palliative Care Unit in Pineville, La., will be at noon today at Young’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Louis Sklar officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Mr. Guidry was born July 9, 1929, in Arnaudville, La., the son of Olide and Armide Hebert Guidry. He served six and one-half years in the U.S. Navy, worked 39 years in the oil field and was owner and operator of Guidry’s Laundromat in Ferriday for 14 years. Mr. Guidry was Catholic.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Clement, Woodrow and Hillard Guidry; and one sister, Betty Mielsch.

Survivors include his wife, Shelby Cain Guidry; one son, Lige Graham and wife, Melinda, of Jena, La.; three grandsons, Dakota, Cade and Chaz Graham; one great-grandson, Jacob Carlton, all of Jena; three sisters, Vivian Richard of Jennings, La., Edna Fraunberger of Sulphur, La., and Elizabeth Tywater and husband, Walker, of Alvin, Texas; seven children, Joe, Allen Olide, Rhonda, Tina, Karen, Carla and Daynath, all of Texas; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of Texas.

Pallbearers will be Cade Graham, Chaz Graham, Malcolm Cain, Justin Cain, Robert Mielsch and Todd Gillespie.

Honorary pallbearers will be Blake Smith, Brandon Smith, Dakota Graham and Walker Tywater.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Veterans Administration Medical Center Palliative Care Unit in Pineville, La., or the American Cancer Society.
