Watercolorist book party, lunch planned for Oct. 23

Natchez — A Natchez book party and lunch with Mississippi watercolorist, Wyatt Waters, will be 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Saturday at Natchez Coffee Company, 509 Franklin St.
The $15 ticket includes lunch and Wyatt’s discussion of the stories behind the paintings contained in his new 2011 Wyatt Waters Calendar.
In addition to signing and personalizing the 2011 Wyatt Waters Calendar, Waters will be signing “Christmas Memories From Mississippi,” a non-fiction collection of stories, which he illustrated.

Waters was born in Brookhaven, spent his childhood in Florence, and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi College in Clinton, He lives and has his studio in Clinton.
Waters initially gained attention in the 1980s by painting famous Jackson landmarks. Waters created the artwork for the poster and T-shirts for the 2003 Great Mississippi Balloon Race in Natchez.
An impressionist style artist, Waters paints familiar people, places and things outside on location, occasionally with other Clinton and Jackson artists. Waters’ works have been exhibited at the Mississippi Museum of Art, the Municipal Art Gallery, the Meridian Museum of Art, Gulf/South Galleries in McComb and Bryant Galleries in both Jackson and New Orleans.
His works have been featured in American Artist Magazine, Watercolor 87, and Mississippi Magazine.
Waters was the 2010 recipient of the Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts.
His books include “Another Coat of Paint: An Artist’s View of Jackson, Mississippi,” “Painting Home,” “Christmas Stories from Mississippi” and “An Oxford Sketchbook.”
In collaboration with Robert St.John, Mr. Waters illustrated two cookbooks, A Southern Palate and Southern Seasons. His previous
calendars were published in 2005 and 2009.
The 2011 Wyatt Waters Calendar features thirteen new watercolor prints in full color, on heavy weight,
textured paper, and are suitable for framing.
Christmas Memories from Mississippi is a beautiful book of thirty-eight essays from Mississippi
writers, illustrated by Wyatt Waters, and including Wyatt’s story of the first bicycle left under the tree
for him by Santa Claus. Covering the holidays from various points of view, and from the early 20th
century to the present, this book reminds us of shared traditions and the unique Yuletide experience in
Mississippi.
