NATCHEZ — Services for Mr. James “Silas” Allen Jr., 71, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Watch Baptist Church.

Burial will follow in the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.

Mr. Allen was born Dec. 6, 1938, in Marion County, the son of James Allen Sr. and Velma Thompson Allen.

He was a member of the NAACP, American Legion and Knights of Columbus Round Table Debate.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Roland Thompson and Talmadge Thompson; one sister, Priscilla Weary; three nephews, Roland Thompson Jr., Virgil Weary and Samuel Thompson.

Survivors include a loving and devoted wife, Velma Butler Allen; two daughters, Tiffany Monét Allen of Charlotte, N.C. and Tabitha Magee and husband Rickey of Columbia; one son, James Allen III and wife Julie of Atlanta; three grandchildren, James Andrew, Alexia Simone and Alexandria Marie; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
