NATCHEZ — A full court press and a relentless attitude spelled a big victory for the Adams County Christian Lady Rebels Thursday.
ACCS rode a 45-2 halftime lead to a 60-6 win against Amite School Center in the Lady Rebels’ Tip Off Tournament. The win improved ACCS to 2-0 on the season.
“The girls came out and set the tempo with aggressive defensive pressure, and the defense sparked the offense,” Lady Rebels head coach Melanie Hall said.
“They saw that offense draws crowds and defense and rebounds win games.”
Taylor Welch led the Lady Rebels in scoring with 13 points. Brandis White added 12 points and Abby Givens tallied 10 points. Every player on the ACCS roster scored at least once for the Lady Rebels.
“Everyone played well, and they worked together to get a good look for a teammate,” Hall said.
“It’s nice to look over and see so many girls with fire in their eyes, ready to play, and be able to sub them in and out. That’s a blessing.”
Hall also said the players were still feeling one another out, trying to get used to playing together.
“We’re a young team. We have four seniors, and two of them have a lot of experience together. The other two have limited minutes,” Hall said.
“We have no juniors, a good group of sophomores and a good freshman. We’re in the process of coming together and trying to see our chemistry develop.”
As long as the girls are having fun, though, Hall said it’s a fun situation to be in.
“We always say, play hard, play smart, play together and have fun,” she said. “When you’re doing the first three, it’s easy to have fun.”
Hall also made sure to give thanks to God for allowing her players to have the chance to enjoy playing basketball.
“He gives us the talent and abilities to use, and when you use them well, good things happen,” Hall said.
“In victory and defeat, we’re going to praise Him.”
ACCS will play Monday at Brookhaven Academy.
