Lady Saints drop another close game in Parklane Academy tournament

MCCOMB — For the second time in as many games at the Parklane Academy Girls Tournament, the Trinity Episcopal Lady Saints could not hang on to a lead during the fourth quarter.

On Tuesday afternoon, Madison-Ridgeland Academy rallied to take an 11-point win. Then on Thursday night, the host Lady Pioneers stormed back from an eight-point deficit to defeat the Lady Saints 52-50.

Led by Madelyn Cross and Bethany Ogden, Trinity Episcopal (0-2) led Parklane 12-11 at the end of the first quarter and then outscored Parklane 16-12 in the second quarter to take a 28-23 lead at halftime. The Lady Saints appeared to be on their way to the first win of the season after having a 12-9 advantage in the third quarter for a 40-32 lead.

Cross led the Lady Saints with a game-high 24 points. Ogden finished with 13 points.

However, Parklane, with the home crowd on its side, chipped away at Trinity’s lead in the game’s final eight minutes. The Lady Pioneers outscored the Lady Saints 20-10 in the fourth quarter.

Trinity Episcopal plays at Brookhaven Academy next Thursday at 6 p.m.
