NATCHEZ — Services for George Albert “Shake” Harden, 66, of Natchez, who died Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, at his residence, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Natchez City Auditorium with the Rev. Josh Whitley officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home in Fayette.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the auditorium.

Mr. Harden was born Nov. 4, 1944, in Natchez, the son of Freddie Lee Harden Sr. and Dora Hogue Harden. He was a graduate of Sadie V. Thompson High School. He later attended Alcorn State University where he pledged Gamma Pi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. in 1965.

Mr. Harden lived a life dedicated to service. He served his country during the Vietnam War and received a National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars and was honorably discharged in 1971. After his military service, he returned to Natchez where he was employed by Armstrong Tire and Rubber Company as a tire scheduler. From 1985 to 2000, he served the Natchez community at large and the citizens of ward two as a city alderman and as mayor pro tem.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Freddie Harden Jr. and Johnnie Harden; and three sisters, Kathryn Wells, Clara Ford and Velma Harden Brown.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 38 years, Deborah Toles Harden; one son, Nyanasanu Harden of Las Vegas; three daughters, RaFaye Nesmith and husband, Kevin, of Lancaster, Texas, Kamiti Harden Garcon, D.D.S., and husband, Daslin, of Pooler, Ga., and Bahati S. Harden, M.D., of Shreveport, La.; one brother, Lee Joy McCoy and wife, Edna, of Natchez, mother-in-law, Vivian Elaine Graham; father-in-law, Tom Toles Sr. and wife, Mary Lee; three brothers-in-law, Eddie Ford Sr. and Tom Toles Jr. and wife, Darlene, all of Natchez, Paul Toles of Jackson and Tom Brown of New Orleans; five sisters-in-law, Laura Harden, Lolita Toles Kendall and Nicole Green and husband, James, all of Natchez, Shannon Johnson and husband, Mack, of Raleigh, N.C., and Thomasina Toles Thornton and husband, Ivan, of South Orange, N.J.; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Pallbearers will be James Williams, Larry Hooper, Ralph Payne, Vincent Bonds, Anthony Heidelberg and Trim McCoy.

Honorary pallbearers will be brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.
