We have to start moving forward

More than a year ago, supporters of a new recreation complex in Adams County did the unthinkable — they asked the voters if they would support a new recreation complex.

Voters emphatically said, “Yes,” to the idea having the city, county and school district work together on developing plans for a recreation complex.

Nearly 80 percent supported the measure.

Clearly, the people have spoken.

The City of Natchez has spoken, too, throwing its early support and some start-up funds behind the project.

The Adams County Board of Supervisors has spoken and provided the same support as the city.

Now Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood has spoken. Hood, thankfully, has no official vote on the matter, but has cleared the legal way for the Natchez-Adams School District to throw its support — and money — behind the recreation plan, too.

All we need now is for the NASD school board to say, “Yes.”

We urge the school board to support the plan and stay involved.

We realize the timing isn’t ideal and that budgets are extremely tight all around.

But we also realize that the only way for Natchez-Adams County to progress is through tough decisions and the willingness of our leaders to work together on meaningful projects.

Sitting on our hands and doing nothing but crying over what our community once had isn’t going to cut it.

Almost everyone has spoken on recreation.

Quickly we need to turn the talk from “if” we should build a recreation complex to details of what we “will” build.
