ROXIE — The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office located a 14-year-old runaway Monday night.

Madison Drew Nichols, who had been missing since late Saturday night, was found a county over in Crosby, Sheriff James Newman said.

“She had been staying with a friend,” Newman said. “The girl said a friend took her down there.”

On an order from a chancery court judge, Nichols was taken from her parents and placed in a detention center Tuesday, Newman said. Newman said the chancery court would continue to monitor the case.

“She is a 14-year-old runaway that obviously needs supervision,” Newman said. “We hope everything works out for her.”

Nichols’ mother, Allyson Smith, reported the teenager missing after the two had a disagreement late Saturday afternoon. Nichols reportedly took off down the road on foot, Newman said in an earlier report.
