VIDALIA — U.S. 84, Louisiana 15 and Louisiana 129 are all going to be getting facelifts during the next two years as the Louisiana Department of Transportation of Development begins work on the roads starting in March.
District Engineer Administrator for LDOTD Ricky Moon said work will begin in Monterey on a five-mile section of Louisiana 129.
Moon said the road will be overlayed at an estimated cost of $2.5 million.
The second phase of the project will be begin midyear 2012 on a three-mile section of U.S. 84 between Ridgecrest and Ferriday.
Moon said the overlaying of the roads will only be on the eastbound lanes of traffic, at an estimated cost of $1.27 million.
In fall of 2012, Moon said work on the third part of the project will be on Louisiana 15 near Deer Park, where LDOTD will be realigning short sections of the road as part of a safety project at an estimated cost of $1.6 million.
Midyear 2013 will bring construction back to U.S. 84 on a three-mile section of eastbound lanes only from Ridgecrest to Ferriday.
Moon said the overlaying is estimated at a cost of $1 million.
Moon said LDOTD also has in the design process a plan to improve the main intersection in Ferriday on Louisiana 15.
Moon said the project will be to improve the turning radius at the intersection for large trucks and 18-wheelers.
Ferriday Mayor Glen McGlothin said he is elated to finally have work done on the intersection in Ferriday.
“I have been waiting on work to start on this for a long time,” he said. “That four-way stop is terrible. It is probably one of the worst intersections in the parish.”
McGlothin said any work on parish roads is a good thing for area residents.
“I am just very glad and thankful,” he said. “Anyone who drives a vehicle is going to be happy to know the roads are going to be worked on. I know they are tired of buying tires.”
