NATCHEZ — Services for Edna C. Mitchell, 80, of Natchez, who died Monday, Jan. 11, 2011, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grove African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Lloyd Bailey and the Rev. James E. Johnson Sr. officiating.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Mitchell was born in Natchez, the daughter of Andrew Clay and Rebecca Conner Clay. She was a graduate of Brumfield High School and was employed by Bellemont and Dumas Hotel Industries as a housekeeper.

She served as a mother of the church and was a participant with the Natchez Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harvey Mitchell Sr.; and one grandson, Kelvin Mitchell.

Survivors include five children, Harvey Mitchell Jr., Aubrey Mitchell, Gwen Brady and husband, Steve, Shirley C. Sashfras and husband, Dave, and Edna C. Hutchins and husband, Claude, all of Natchez; two sisters, Ethel C. Rowan of Natchez and Rebecca Whitted of Chicago; one brother, Rogers Clay and wife, Marie, of New Orleans; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two goddaughters, Velma Anderson of Natchez and Brenda Jordan of Nashville, Tenn.; two special nieces, Vertis R. Flanagan and Jerlian R. King, both of Natchez; two lifelong friends, Elizabeth Briscoe of Chicago and Lillian C. Noble of Natchez; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
