NATCHEZ — A suspect wanted for shooting a man in the back Tuesday turned himself in to police Thursday, Police Chief Mike Mullins said.
Mullins said Lance White, 34, 269 West Stiers Lane, was booked at 5:01 p.m.
White allegedly shot Christopher Combs in the lower back outside the Zipy Food Store gas station at the intersection of Washington Road and Pilgrim Boulevard, Mullins said.
Witnesses at the gas station reported that they saw the suspect fighting with Combs before shooting him, Mullins said.
The incident was apparently related to a dispute between the two men that has been going on for at least a week, Mullins said.
Mullins said he could not discuss the nature of the dispute because the allegations in the case are not all factual.
“That will all come out in court,” Mullins said.
Mullins said White probably heard police were searching for him during the investigation and turned himself in to police.
He was charged with aggravated assault and no bond has been set until his arraignment.
Mullins said Friday the victim, Combs, 28, remains at a Jackson hospital and is in stable condition.
