NATCHEZ — The Cathedral baseball team will once again be playing its home games at Chester-Willis Field this season.

Cathedral practices on the baseball field owned by Covington Road Church of Christ, and attempted to buy the land so the Green Wave could play their games there. But Cathedral baseball coach Craig Beesley said those plans fell through.

“They just had a change of mind in terms of selling the land,” Beesley said. “We’re going to continue to practice there, but our games will be at Chester-Willis until something comes up.”

Beesley also said some of Cathedral’s patrons are looking into other land options, but he said he would like to keep playing at Chester Willis unless a move made sense.

“I enjoy playing there,” he said. “It would be great to have our own field, but the only way I’d like that is if it’s close to the school.

“Moving equipment would be tough, as would transporting the kids from the school to the field. We have some junior high players that have to ride the bus and some ninth graders that still can’t drive. It’s just things we’re not used to having to deal with.”
