Gladys Burk

NATCHEZ — Services for Gladys Harrigill Burk, 95 of Natchez, formerly of Rayville, La., who died March 16, 2011 at Magnolia House in Natchez, will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Mulhearn Funeral Home Chapel in Rayville with the Rev. Eddie Wren officiating.

Burial will follow at the Rayville Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Burl was born December 6, 1915 in Franklin County, Miss., the daughter of Samuel Madison Harrigill and Kathryn French Harrigill.

Gladys grew up in Stanton, graduating from Washington High School in Washington, and Hinds Junior College in Raymond, where she was a member of their State Championship basketball team.

She was employed by Mulhearn Funeral Home and Flower Shop for more than 50 years. She worked in both Rayville and Monroe, La.

She was a long-time member of Rayville First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was active in WMU and Saints Alive group.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wyatt J. Burk; her sister, Evalyn Beacham Thompson and her brother, Albert Nesbit Harrigill.

Survivors include her two sisters, Alice Puhr, of Moss Point, Miss., and Mary Grace Gibson and husband, Curtis, of Natchez and a number of nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by her faithful friend, companion and caretaker Cora Edney.

The family would like to thank Magnolia House in Natchez and its staff for the love and care given to Gladys who has been a resident there for several years.  The family especially thanks the nurses and aids for their professional and personal attention during this time.

We would also like to thank Hospice Compassus and its staff for the care and support it has provided Gladys and our family.

Pallbearers will be the Rev. Roger Puhr, Ronald Puhr, Ryan Puhr, Linda Freeman, David Freeman and Scott Harrigill.
